MILES TAKES OFF
Apocalypse Friday Night 2: Maui
On the other side of town on 12.21.12- a music project called Maui played in a basement. They projected a guy who I think is part of the project but now lives in New York, onto a large screen in front of the audience. The Vermont member of the group produced electronic music you could move to that ventured into some dark realms, while his larger than life friend (wearing futuristic insect-like goggles) rocked out on the screen, drinking, blowing smoke, moving to the music, and generally vibing with the show, which he was listening to with headphones. His New York roommates probably had no idea he was attending such a cool party. I think he contributed vocals, too. A lot of the audience members seemed to be friends with the projected man, and it was endearing to see the huge amount of amusement and pleasure they garnered from his varying activities on the screen. Besides the skype love-fest, the beat-producer had good energy and was making interesting music using a set-up which was un-cluttered and appealing aesthetically somehow . I would recommend checking out Maui, I heard a rumor they only play on the solstice though so you may have to wait a little while. Until then, good luck with whatever shifts are happening. The days are getting longer!!
